RUNAWAY vol. 5 – CHANGE OF COLORS

While growing up there at the end of Bezanijska kosa, on the field between buildings popularly called Dice, while we were all still elementary school students, a friend from the neighborhood kept telling us how his father was painted on the first Belgrade mural. We didn’t even know what a mural was, nor were we, to be honest, interested in it. Fate had it that almost ten years after that moment, I started turning my neighborhood into an open-air museum, actively drawing and organizing the Runaway street art festival. During those years, when it was my turn to paint again at the festival, I remembered this story. I asked Marko to ask his father Mirko, once a student of the Faculty of Fine Arts and now a professor at the Faculty of Applied Arts, if he would again be a model for a mural. Thus, this work was created, a kind of homage to the painting – mural by Čedomir Vasić, which is located in Rajićeva Street, where a student in jeans with a drawing map in hand, facing away from the street, looks at the colors flowing down the wall where he is painted. Neighbor Mirko agreed to be a model again, but asked what the conceptual idea was. I explained that the primary conceptual thing was the change of colors, and accordingly, the position. Unlike the painting back then, he is now facing en face with a raised hand and a finger pointing upwards. Once the colors flowed, and now from above, feces spill over us. We easily agreed on that.
