Description

No Distance With Him
Breathing To the Fullest
Working on this installation, I was intensely hoping for three wishes to come true.
As you can see, this stylized bronchial tree symbolizes breathing and refers to health. No oxygen, no breathing, and consequently, no life.
My first wish was for the people with lung disease treated in the Institute for Lung Diseases and TB and all other sick people to win their battle for air and thus win happines both for themselves and the ones their lives matter to. Metaphorically, for me, breathing is winning freedom for only a healthy man is a free man.
The main precondition for that wish of mine to come true is that our health care system starts breathing to the fullest for once, which would actually be my second wish. Doing responsible jobs within our health care system, my parents dedicated their whole lives to its improvement in order to make it easier for the patient to catch their breath and win the battle with their illness. So this sculpture should also be a monument to all the hardworking health professionals so that they never forget that our lives are in their hands and that they never give up the fight whose result, I’d say, our survival depends on most.
At the end, my third wish refers to the healing process of our society for, as I see it, it is very sick and fighting for air. Let, then, everyone who shares this opinion, give their best to win this battle. Then our nature will be healthy, our forests will grow, our air will be clean, our thoughts will be clear, as will the rivers that run. With that wish in my heart, I lay the foundations of this sculpture hoping it will root in this piece of our holly health care land and forever stay there pointing to the right direction.
The sculpture was made to raise awareness about the most deadly disease in the world, lung cancer. It was put up in front of the Institute for Lung Disease and TB within the University Clinical Center of Serbia in Belgrade in the presence of a large number of health professionals and media.
The unvailing of the sculpture took place on World No Tobacco Day.
None of the media present reported about the real meaning of the sculpture, and I don’t really know how long the lungs will remain in the hospital yard.
The name of the project is “No Distance With Him“, as a reaction to a large number of people who during the pandemic of COVID-19 could not have their regular check-ups or get treatments for any other disease. According to statistics, this disease advanced in the course of last year.
Raising awareness in people as the purpose of my life and work.
I owe a huge ‘thank you’ to the BREATHING TO THE FULLEST
Civil Association Against Lung Cancer, who insisted on me being the author of the sculpture and went through with it to the end.
